About me...
Thank you for visiting my website to find out more about me, my values and what I stand for. I care about the kind of world we will leave for our children - the choices we make now are the legacy we will leave.
I have a passion for
getting involved and making things happen. Local council elections will be held by postal vote during October 2012, and as I believe that local council is the one level of government that you can
get involved with and influence, I have made the decision to stand as a candidate in Cherry Lake Ward for Hobson's Bay City Council.
In the words of Mahatma Ghandi ‘you
have to be the change you want to see in the world.’
As the mother of two school-aged children, and the daughter of ageing parents, I understand the needs, pressures and pleasures that come with family life. I have been a resident of Hobsons Bay for the past 18 years, active in the community as...
- Campaigner,
Altona Loop Group - working to improve public transport for Hobsons Bay
- Executive
Committee, Altona Junior Football Club - lobbying to improve sporting
facilities and working with WRFL & AFL to support volunteers in sport
- School Councillor (7
years), President (4 years), Altona Primary School - providing good governance
and leadership; initiating school and community partnerships; fundraising and
grants
- Former Manager /
Volunteer Co-ordinator, Gateway Social Support Options - providing services and
companionship for older, isolated Hobsons Bay residents
- Community Representative Hobsons Bay Sport & Recreation Strategy; Member Hobsons Bay Women’s Advisory Committee - giving the community a voice
- Graduate of Building Communities - A Leadership Journey, an initiative of Sustainability Victoria, Victorian Local Governance Association, Hobsons Bay City Council and Dattner Grant
In my professional life, I have worked in the
fields of equal opportunity, training, policy and community service. I am not a
member of any political party.
What I stand for...
• Building resilient and
healthy communities for the future
• Ensuring services and
infrastructure meet the needs of our diverse population
• Protecting our open spaces
for the enjoyment of all
• Fiscal responsibility and
living within our means
• Integrity, respect and transparent
decision making
Testimonials...
"As part of the
Hobsons Bay community, Sandra is a wonderful source of information, and has
instigated meetings on issues of local interest, for example raising the
profile of Altona P-9 College. Sandra has a very
keen interest in sustainability and the world in which we wish to leave our
children. I am always inspired by
her passion and enthusiasm. She is a positive role model and has an outlook on
life that is contagious."
Liz Brown, Altona Primary School Council Member
"We have known
Sandra for some years and feel that her energy and enthusiasm for community
causes would serve us all well. It
has been our experience to be part of a community project team with her and we
have been impressed by her innovation in working through ideas.
"At all times she
manages to concentrate on and cooperate in the resolution of the challenges at
hand. She is able to keep in mind
the goal and to use her wide and successful experiences in a most positive way. We feel that her personality,
experience and thoughtfulness make her an ideal councillor."
Max & Margaret Kidd, Altona Loop Group
"Sandra ticks all the boxes for you and I as ratepayers. With Sandra you have absolute honesty, dedication to the task at hand, common sense, ability to listen, learn and understand and make the correct decision. Seldom do you
come across a person with the passion to work for the good of others and in
Sandra you have just that. She has that drive to excel in this pursuit."
Barrie Muschialli, President, Altona Football Club

her all."
